Metro-East Lutheran High School Art Camp

Metro-East Lutheran High School & The Macoupin Art Collective are working together in the summer of 2017 to offer art classes!  Brandace Cloud and Nicole Ottwell will teach a myriad of classes to students of all ages from children in kindergarten all the way through adults!


All classes are being facilitated by The Macoupin Art Collective and will meet in the Art Building at:

June 26, 28, 30

Painting

$70 for this 3-day class

  • 10:00am to 12:00pm – Kids K-2nd grade

We will learn about several different painting mediums. We will learn their names and how to use them prop- erly. Several included are: Oil Paint, Acrylic Paint, Watercolor Paint, and maybe even push the definition of what paint is and see if we can’t make our own paint.

Drawing

$70 for this 3-day class

  • 12:30pm to 2:30pm – Kids K-2nd grade

Most of us have drawn before, but what materials have you used for drawing? In this class we will explore several different drawing materials. We will be working with oil pastels, chalk pastels, drawing pencils, char- coal, and some drawing ink. We will explore each material and see what makes them different and we will also think about the similarities. 

Stained Glass

$120 for this 3-day class, all materials included

  • 3:00pm to 5:00pm – Adults (15 years old and up) 

No prior experience needed. Bring a friend or neighbor and join us for this fun and exciting class. See if stained glass is something you would be interested in before making the investment in supplies and tools. We will show you step-by-step instructions on cutting glass, preparing patterns, foiling, and soldering. You will complete your first stained glass panel in class, and take it home with you. 

Soft Sculpture Stuffies

$70 for this 3-day class

  • 10:00am to 12:00pm – Kids 3rd-8th grade

In this class we will create soft sculptures using fabric thread and stuffing materials. You can design your own unique creation that you can embellish as you wish. They can be a crazy and fun as you wish.

Sheepishly Shrinking Fibers

$70 for this 3-day class

  • 12:30pm to 2:30pm – Kids 3rd-8th grade

In this fun class we will learn about wool fibers and how we can make them do very different things. We will dye some wool and get started with felting, including felted soap, nuno felt, and felted geodes. We will get a little wet and have a lot of fun.


July 10, 12, 14

Hand-Built Clay

$70 for this 3-day class

  • 10:00am to 12:00pm – Kids K-2nd grade
  • 12:30pm to 2:30pm – Kids 3rd-8th grade
  • 3:00pm to 5:00pm –Adults (15 years old and up)

For this week we will work with a commercial low fire earthenware clay to create several projects. We will work with clay each of the days we meet. The first two days we will work with making a cup, bowl, and plate. The final day we will work to glaze the pieces so that they are food safe, microwave safe, and dishwasher safe. We might even have some time to create a small owl sculpture before we go! 


July 17, 19, 21

Sculpture

$70 for this 3-day class

  • 10:00am to 12:00pm – Kids K-2nd grade

Lets go 3-D! Most art that we work with tends to be flat and on the table. Today we will make art works that extend into the third dimension. We will be using hammers and nails (possibly) in this class. We will work with several different materials to create artworks that help us start to understand words like 'form' and 'space'.

Fibers

$70 for this 3-day class

  • 12:30 to 2:30 – kids K-2nd grade

We will be working with all things fiber. We will try our hand at wet felting to make a small bead that we will be able to string onto a string with other colorful beads. We will also try our hand at sewing a small pillow friend.

Knitting

$70 for this 3-day class

  • 10:00am to 12:00pm – Kids 3rd-8th grade

Come and learn the relaxing craft of knitting. We will break out your new knitting needles and yarn and make new creative accessories for your life. Once we learn how to knit there will be several projects to choose from, and you leave with your knitting needles and a new skill. Come and join us even if you know the basics and we will build upon what you know and learn a few more skills. 

Totes-M-Goats

$70 for this 3-day class

  • 12:30pm to 2:30pm – Kids 3rd-8th grade

In this class we will dye your fabric to make a tote bag as well as add pockets with embroidery on them. This is a fun class and you'll bring home a sturdy unique tote bag made by you!

Stitch-A-Licious

$70 for this 3-day class

  • 10:00am to 12:00pm – Kids 3rd-8th grade

Have you ever wanted to make your own patches? We will learn to embroider patches that you can attach to your jacket, backpack or anything fabric to turn it into something unique. We will make several patches that you can iron onto anything fabric.

Science of Dye

$70 for this 3-day class

  • 12:30pm to 2:30pm – Kids 3rd-8th grade

Learn new dye techniques and the science behind them. We will dye with Ice, fiber reactive dyes, Indigo dye, and Kool Aid. Let’s learn about dyes and the chemical processes that add color to cloth. You'll dye a t-shirt and two bandanas.
