Intro to Yarn Bombing (ages 6-15)

  • Macoupin Art Collective 214 E. Main St. Staunton, IL 62093 USA (map)

Ages: 6-15

Yarn-bombing is a form of street fiber art that uses yarn, string, fabric, and other materials to create beautiful works of art both indoor and out. Street art does not have to be permanent or destructive to send a message.
We will learn about the yarn-bombing movement and work on some small yarn-bombs for the MAC and one large collaborative piece that will be publicly displayed (info on this to come). You will be able to take your new talents out into the world and create beauty by making everyday items such as trees, signs, planters, benches, etc. even more interesting and beautiful!

Yarn-bombing is a fun, inexpensive way to create beauty in the mundane. Kids are drawn to color, to whimsy. Yarn-bombing allows children to turn something boring into something fun and fabulous without damaging it! Some skills we will be learning:
- Basic weaving/wrapping/braiding of yarn both freehand and on items
- Items we will definitely be working with are: yarn (of course), driftwood, rocks, chairs, and fencing.
- The kids will also get the opportunity to choose one spot inside the MAC studio to leave their yarn-bombing mark!
