Welcome to Full STEAM Ahead!
This series of free classes spans four sessions, with each session focused on the science behind a different area of art – photography, ceramics, mobiles, and metalworking. This class is part of a local Girl Scout Gold Award Project by Rowan Dothager.
This free after-school class, appropriate for students in 5th through 8th grade, meets on Tuesdays from 4 to 5pm, March 26th, and April 2nd, 9th, and 16th.
Session One: Solar Prints
Students will investigate chemistry by making solar prints, also referred to as cyanotypes, and talking about the science behind photography.
Session Two: Pinch Pots
In the ceramics session, students will make pinch pots, while learning about engineering using different types of ceramic materials.
Session Three: Hanging Mobiles
The session on mobiles will give students the opportunity to learn about physics in a real hands-on context.
Session Four: Blacksmith Jewelry
Finally, by creating metal jewelry, students will learn about metallurgical engineering and the skill of blacksmithing.
