Indigo Dyeing

Learn the ancient Japanese art of indigo tie-dye. First students will learn how to prepare a vat of indigo. Students will experience techniques for tying and dipping your fabric. Each participant will get to create 3 dyeing technique samples of loose fabric Supplies are included. If students have a piece of clothing they would like to Upcycle they can bring that to dye also. It's a great way to revive a piece of clothing with a stain. These clothes should be 100% cotton and pre-washed.

Ms. Bonnie first learned sewing, dyeing, and needle work as a child in 4-H and girl scouts.  She went on to hone those skills while earning an MFA in Theater Costume Design and Technology at Northern Illinois University.  Ms. Bonnie worked professionally and taught theater for ten years.  She then shifted focus to become an Occupational Therapy Assistant and Social Worker. Now she uses arts and crafts daily to promote wellness and help people recover from mental and physical health problems.  Ms. Bonnie is thrilled to be teaching sewing and fiber arts and crafts at the MAC.
